12/6/2023 0 Comments Traffic to work at 9 am![]() M-F evening: traffic begins around 3 pm during the week and hits its peak at 5 pm.M-F morning: traffic is really thick at 7 am and hits its peak at 8am.Okay, so here’s where Austin is at according to research gathered by TomTom: (without having to actually sit in it, thank goodness) Or maybe it’s just fun for me, as a person who analyzes traffic every day. It’s kind of fun to poke around and look at what other cities and countries are dealing with when it comes to congestion. The TomTom Traffic Index has a helpful tool that provides drivers, city managers and policy makers with statistics on congestion levels in 403 cities across 56 countries on 6 continents. During the work week, I-35 heading north in South Austin south of Ben White is always the first to back up (unless there’s a crash elsewhere) and that usually starts around 6:30 am. ![]() Factor in lunch as well and my company on average gets an extra hour of productivity from me for the same pay per week compared to a 8x5.When you think ‘rush hour’ you usually think between 6 and 9 am during the morning commute and between 4 and 7 pm at night. ![]() Typically from clocking in it takes about 10 minutes to actually start being productive for the company if I'm not chatting with my coworkers, and at the end of the day we typically don't do anything useful the last 15-20 minutes, sometimes longer. My boss liked it because it meant less time getting wasted at work in total. Your morale is higher considering you only have to hold out for 4 days of work instead of 5. In your weekend you can fully relax for 2 days instead of a normal weekend where you relax 1 day and then have the lurking thought that "work's tomorrow, ugh" all of Sunday. You have a full day every week to take care of whatever you need done during a weekday (such as banking), and you actually have energy on Friday You still avoid the real rush hour leaving at 4. There's almost no traffic on the roads before 6, after 6 it starts getting busier as a lot of places start opening/people start working at 7. You commute to/from work 8 times a week instead of 10, saving time and money. It starts late enough that it doesn't really mess with sleep (going to sleep at 2200, waking up at 0520 leaves you a little over 7 hours). I used to work 6-4 x 4 and it was fantastic. Why is noone mentioning 10 hour workdays? Feel free to use the Politics Megathread pinned to the front page. It's very unlikely your political post is an unpopular opinion.
